It is my privilege to be part of one of the most exciting periods in Lakeside’s history. Over the past few years, we have made many positive changes—from recruiting new physicians, to launching initiatives to improve quality of care, to increasing the number of nurses on staff, and most important, to improving patient satisfaction.
Another change is the addition of the new Lakeside Urgent Care Center at 42 Nichols Street in Spencerport. It’s open seven days a week, including holidays, from 1-9 p.m. No appointment needed, just walk in.
And these improvements have paid off. Our Emergency Department has been ranked in the 99th percentile in New York state and 82nd in the country; and has some of the shortest waiting times in the region. Our hospital is a designated New York State Stroke Center.
In addition, Lakeside received four awards for Top Improvement and Attainment in the clinical areas of Pneumonia and Congestive Heart Failure based on fourth-year results from the Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) project.
We have recently been named the nation's Most Wired Hospital in a 2009 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study for our innovative use of information technology. In fact, the Beikirch Care Center completed the upgrade of its data capturing system. This allows our certified nursing assistants to document the details of a patient's care much more quickly. The result is faster, more improved communication so staff can spend more time with our residents.
Of course, these accolades would be meaningless if our patients weren't well served. Our most important measure, and the one we are proudest of, is our high patient satisfaction score, which is in the 99th percentile. Our patients tell us they like our warm, personal atmosphere; our staff of friendly, caring professionals, and our ability to deliver a high quality of care more efficiently.
And speaking of warm and friendly – former First Lady Laura Bush was the guest speaker at this year’s Gala on December 11th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Mrs. Bush continued our tradition of distinguished speakers for this preeminent fundraising event.
